Now In Our 50th Year!

The Art of Thrifting

Everybody is talking about it: You’ve seen amazing things people found at a flea market or garage sale. But you never seem to feel as lucky as others and uncovering hidden gems…. How can you change that?

How to uncover amazing finds:
  1. Keep an open mind. Shopping at a flea market is not like going to a regular store. You never know what you’ll find. When something catches your eye, figure out why that it is. Is it the size, color, shape, texture? Get in touch with that connection point. Does it fit with what you have, or fill a gap?
  2. Think crazy – we mean creatively. Simple things can be repurposed or upcycled at little or no cost. Browse Instagram and Pinterest for ideas.
  3. Look for quality. Learn to distinguish between quality and junk. Not all vintage items are of quality. Look at the materials, how it’s made. Chances are the older it is, the better it’s made.
  4. Don’t obsess about dirt and rust, or even some “damage”. As long as it’s safe, that’s part of its character. Refer to this article by Recreated Designs on how to clean your new-found treasures.
Explore on a regular basis! Jamie’s is open all year round on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Ways to supplement your income

Who wouldn’t like to make a little bit of extra money? Are you living on a fixed income, between jobs, or would you like to add to your vacation fund? A second job is time consuming and tiring. There’s an easier way to make some fast cash: Sell things you no longer want or use.

Restaurant Space Available

The Lunch Counter located at the Front Entrance of the East Building will be available for rent starting March 1.

Vendors rely on the Lunch Counter for early morning breakfast and coffee before the market opens. Shoppers and vendors alike stop by for a mid-morning pick-me-up as well as a quick hot lunch or beverage. With seating, the Lunch Counter is a good place for customers to meet or restore oneself after shopping.
